Traditional academic methods for teaching an essay’s proper structure don’t work for students with Learning Disabilities. Michael Strong needed a faster way to teach this concept to his daughters, who had Attention Deficit Disorder (A.D.D.). He devised The ColorCode Essay Writing System, using a color-coded sample essay with a “rainbow“ paragraph to convey the idea in less than 30 minutes. An Owner’s Manual instructed them how to use the colors as a guide for presenting ideas systematically. The ColorCode Essay Writing System worked! Both daughters grasped the basic concept in less than half an hour; both graduated from Carolina Friends School and both were admitted to the University of North Carolina-Asheville. One graduated in May 2009 and the other is in her senior year.

After serving in the US Marine Corps, Michael Strong used the G.I. Bill to earn a Diplôme in French Civilization at the University of Lyon, France; a B.A. in Political Science and a Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill; and his CFP designation from the College of Financial Planning – Denver. He taught school on the NC Outerbanks; owned Chapel Hill’s Town Hall nightclub, ran the UNC Campus Mail Service; managed Greensboro’s Brice Street Band; edited the financial newsletter Strongpoint$; and worked for over 25 years as a stockbroker until retiring in April 2009.
